How We Test Devices

Before we list a used or refurbished device, we prepare and check it. This page explains what that involves. Each product page shows the checks recorded for that specific device. We only list a check there if it was carried out.

Preparation

  • Data wipe and reset. Used and refurbished devices are data-wiped and reset before resale where applicable.
  • Activation and account locks. We check applicable devices to make sure they're not still tied to a previous owner's activation lock (such as Find My / iCloud or Google) or to Microsoft or organisation account restrictions.
  • Condition grading. We grade cosmetic condition as Excellent, Very Good or Good and note marks or faults. See our Product Condition Guide.

Checks we may record

Depending on the device, our checklist can include:

  • display
  • keyboard
  • trackpad
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • webcam, speakers and microphone
  • charging and battery
  • ports
  • storage
  • basic system operation

Not every check applies to every device. A product page only shows the checks recorded for that device.

Battery information

Where we have a reliable battery health reading, we show it as a percentage. Otherwise we describe the battery's tested status. We don't estimate or guess battery health.

What testing means, and what it doesn't

Our checks confirm that the device worked as described when we tested it. They can't guarantee a device will never develop a fault. If something is wrong with your device, contact us: your statutory rights apply. See our Returns & Refunds Policy.
