Product Condition Guide

This guide explains how we describe the condition of used and refurbished devices. Our grades are below.

Used and refurbished: what's the difference?

  • Used: previously owned, tested and condition graded.
  • Refurbished: previously owned and also genuinely repaired, restored or reconditioned where needed, for example with a replaced part.

We never call a device refurbished just because it is used. The product page tells you which applies.

What a grade does and doesn't tell you

Grades describe cosmetic condition: marks, scratches, scuffs and dents. They don't describe performance. A Good device isn't less capable than an Excellent one of the same specification. It just shows more signs of use.

Every listing also has its own cosmetic notes and known faults, where applicable, plus battery information and what's included. These details are specific to the device and take priority over the general grade description. Photos of used and refurbished products may be representative unless the listing says "Actual item pictured".

Our condition grades

Grades describe cosmetic condition only. They don't tell you how well a device works, and a lower grade doesn't mean lower performance.

  • Excellent

    Close to new

Minimal signs of use. Any marks are very light and hard to spot at normal viewing distance.

  • Very Good

    Light signs of use

Minor scuffs or fine scratches on the casing that you may notice on close inspection.

  • Good

    Visible signs of use

Noticeable scratches, scuffs or small dents on the casing. Check the listing photos and notes for details.
